Motorola Solutions has completed the acquisition of Barrett Communications in a move that bolsters the company's mission-critical radio communications and expands its global footprint.
Founded in 1976, Perth-based Barrett Communications specializes in delivering radio communications and serves a range of industries including civil security, border security, coastguard, governments, and private sectors. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
The company designs high frequency (HF) and very high frequency (VHF) mission-critical radio communications, with these products designed to work in any location regardless of infrastructure.
"Barrett brings us a new portfolio of communications capabilities beyond traditional land mobile radio, allowing us to support highly specialized operations," said Motorola Solutions international sales senior vice president Mark Schmidi.
Public Safety Network contraction extension
Motorola Solutions has also been awarded a five-year contract extension worth AUD$60 million ($41.9m) by the NSW Telco Authority to support and upgrade New South Wales' Public Safety Network (PSN).
The deal will see Motorola Solutions provide secure voice and data communication to first responders across the state. The NSW PSN covers 324,000 square km according to the NSW Telco Authority.
This network provides instant team-based communications to more than 50 public safety agencies and over 50,000 radio users across emergency services, essential services, government agencies and local councils.
