A storage area network (SAN) issue caused a two-day-long outage this week at a Sydney data center operated by Macquarie Telecom, CRN reported.

The provider’s managing director Aidan Tudehope told iTnews that the outage affected 65 customers, most of whom were back online within 12 hours. Tudehope did not provide any details on what exactly caused the SAN outage, since the analysis of the incident had not been completed.

The outage started around 4:30pm (local time) on Tuesday.

The affected data center was Macquarie’s Intellicentre 1 facility launched in 2000. The company invested AU$35m in the data center’s construction.

This was not the first SAN-related outage at this site. According to an itNews report, a hardware failure in a SAN array controller led to downtime for several customers in August 2010.

Macquarie has one other data center in the Sydney market, called Intellicentre 2, located outside of Sydney’s central business district. The company officially launched this AU$60m facility in September.
