Jakarta-based PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (Mitratel) has acquired 803 towers from infrastructure operator PT Gametraco Tunggal for around $113 million.

In an announcement last week, the subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia said the acquisition includes 1,327 tenants.

562 of the 803 towers (70 percent) are located outside Java, the company confirmed.

"Expanding market share outside Java has become a strategic agenda for a number of telecommunications operator companies," said Mitratel president and director, Theodorus Ardi Hartoko.

"This expansion is in line with the increasing need for internet in various regions along with even distribution of economic growth. As the main player in this business and part of a BUMN, of course we have to be at the forefront in helping their expansion,"

Mitratel owns more than 37,000 telecom towers, a figure that has grown by 5.8 percent year-on-year.

A day earlier, the company also confirmed it had acquired 967.1km of optical fiber from Power Telecom for $54m.

The company states that the fiber has a billable length of over 1,144km.
