Micron has begun shipping its 245TB Micron 6600 ION SSD, the world's highest-capacity commercially available SSD.

In a statement, Micron said the offering marks a “major step forward” in data center rack-scale storage density and has been designed to support AI, cloud, enterprise, and hyperscale workloads.

First unveiled in July 2025, the data center SSD was built with Micron G9 NAND technology, which the company says delivers “critical power and performance benefits.”

The 245TB Micron 6600 ION SSD is available in both U.2 and E3.L form factors, with Micron stating that its smaller physical footprint and increased capacity per drive reduce failure points and maintenance needs.

The SSD also consumes up to 30W at maximum power, a figure which represents around half the power consumed by a comparable-capacity HDD deployment, Micron said. The company went on to claim that for AI workloads, the 6600 ION provided up to 84 times better energy efficiency, 8.6 times faster AI preprocessing, and demonstrated up to 435 times better throughput per watt.
