Vodacomm Business Nigeria is working with data center service provider Rack Centre Africa to set up carrier neutral infrastructure in Nigeria.

According to The Guardian in Nigeria, the data center will be built to a Tier III specification and will pave the way for new service from multiple service providers.

Vodacom will provide managing hosting services from the facility, and will migrate operations from its existing facility in Q1 next year.

Rack Centre uses BladdRoom Modular Data Centers in its facilities, which will allow colo customers to roll out operations as demand increases.

Saudi airline builds data centers in Jeddah

Saudi Arabian Airlines plans to build what could be the largest green IT park which will include data centers at the King Abdullah Economic City to the north of Jeddah.

It has purchased a 10,000 sq m plot of land for SR20bn according to the Saudi Gazette, which will be used for research and development facilities and data centers that will be used by the airport and other companies.

The Economic City, situated in the energy-rich country, features a massive industrial park covering 62.5 sq m, residential zones, a 13.5km sq central business district and 5km sq educational area.

Egypt woos telcos

Egypt’s government has approached the telecommunications industry in an effort to boost the sector.

It would like to see a fourth mobile operator added in the country, according to website bikyamasr, and could offer a new license in the country in Q1 next year.

If it doesn’t attract a fourth operator, the government will work with existing operators, which include Vodafone Egypt, Etisalat Misr and Mobinil, to find new ways of supporting the industry, which has witnessed growth as a result of the use of social media during and after the uprising in 2011.
