Global publishing and communications company, McGraw-Hill Companies, has announced plans for a multiyear investment of more than $100 million on the construction of a new 180,000 ft┬▓, state-of-the-art data centre at its facility on Princeton-Hightstown Road, East Windsor, New Jersey.
According to the company, the new data center will provide a high-tech foundation for future business growth by allowing the corporation to deliver an increasing amount of its financial, educational and business information products digitally and with greater timeliness, security and reliability.
"As a leading global information services provider it is critical that we expand our technology platform in a way that strengthens our ability to provide insight, analysis and solutions for our customers and markets around the world," said Harold McGraw III, chairman, president and CEO of The McGraw-Hill Companies. "This significant investment reflects our ongoing strategy to use advanced technology for building revenue, reducing costs and creating shared business support platforms that will increase the pace of product development, improve quality and customer service, and enhance back-office business support operations."
The smart data center will operate with 5MW of power for computing capacity, be energy efficient and include a backup power system to offer customers uninterrupted service. Construction of the data center is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2008.
As the central hub of the Corporation's global computing needs, the new East Windsor data center will continue to host many of the critical, revenue-generating products The McGraw-Hill Companies is known for including Standard & Poor's Rating Direct, BusinessWeek.com and McGraw-Hill Education's TerraNova Online assessment series.
In addition, the data center will continue to host the Corporation's disaster recovery systems, voice and data telecommunications, help desk applications, email services, and web hosting for both internal and external web sites.
