Mission Critical Facilities International (MCFI) has developed and deployed 20 microgrids for Alaskan telecom services provider OTZ Telecommunications Company (OTZ).
Dubbed MicroGENIUS, the microgrids are designed to provide reliable, completely off-grid power that can operate for more than a year without refueling in some of the planet’s most extreme environments.
According to MCFI, the microgrids will provide grid-independent energy solutions for OTZ's 630-mile microwave network from Coldfoot Camp to Kotzebue, Alaska.
The company notes that the microgrids will deliver high-speed connectivity to remote villages and towns in the northwestern part of the state.
MCFI, which is part of the Mission Critical Group, adds that the microgrids have been built to survive Alaska's tough climate.
MCFI specializes in designing, delivering, and installing comprehensive packaged power solutions, modular data centers, and microgrids for mission-critical industries.
“We sought a partner who could deliver a reliable solution capable of withstanding one of the harshest environments in the world,” said Kelly Williams, CEO of OTZ. “MCFI’s expertise in designing mission critical infrastructure made them the ideal choice to help us achieve this milestone for Alaska.”
Founded in 1975, OTZ provides telephone, wireless, and Internet services throughout Northwest Alaska.
MCFI has previously supported Texas telco BBT (Big Bend Telephone) deployment of a modular data center in Midland, West Texas.
