Cedar Rapids-based Involta LLC, the successor to CoVault, launched in 2006 to offer collocation services from two former Global Crossing facilities, has announced it is planning to build a US$7 million data center in Iowa, Marion.
The company says construction on a 20,000-square-foot building is expected to begin in October, and will house computer systems and equipment for area businesses, government and educational institutions. The facility is scheduled for operation in August 2008.
The center will have environmental systems and controls, redundant backup power, specialized fire suppression, and reinforced concrete building construction. It will feature 10,000 square feet of space with appropriate for cooling and humidity control for computer systems. Bruce Lehrman, chief executive officer of Involta, said the data center will provide many advantages for Corridor businesses, including shared costs for such a secure environment and an off-site data storage option in the event of a disaster. while actually cutting costs."
Iron Communications LLC, a Cedar Rapids provider of residential telephone, Internet and cable TV service, will occupy 3,000 square feet of the Involta Data Center when it is completed. Iron also will provide the center's fiber-optic infrastructure.
"The data center presents us with the opportunity to locate our new and existing digital video and data equipment, satellite dishes and other customer infrastructure in an extremely secure facility," said Steve Gray, executive chairman of ImOn.
