Enterprise IT management company ManageEngine has launched RackBuilder Plus, software aimed at giving enterprises and administrators of large data centers realistic 3D views of their data center and the realtime health of their devices.

The software should help administrators to save time and improve facilities management by giving a complete inventory of the data center, including all the relationship details between racks, floors and devices, according to ManageEngine.

The company says that RackBuilder Plus’ ability to offer realtime monitoring of data center devices is an industry first.

Dev Anand, director of product management at ManageEngine, said that testing had shown that a life-like, realistic view means admins can gain more visibility of the data center and manage it better.

“This has significantly helped them to move out from the tedious documentation process and view the racks and floors from their network operation center itself in live," Anand said.

"Since RackBuilder also has basic monitoring, they can also get to know the status of the devices. Furthermore, the software helps them to have a clearer picture of their space consumption across racks and floors.”

RackBuilder Plus has an easy-to-use rack and floor builder that lets data center admins create 3D views of racks and data center floors.

Devices can be dragged and dropped onto the racks and then the racks onto the floors.

3D visual modelling combined with device monitoring help admins to identify the health status of the devices in real time, according to ManageEngine.

It said RackBuilder Plus makes it easier for admins to identify the free slots available in each rack as well as the rack space available on each floor.

This rack and floor utilization can be properly monitored and future expansion planned for accordingly.

RackBuilder Plus also supports data migration from other data center documentation tools such as Device42 and RackTables.
