Macquarie Telecom said it will host a fully redundant 24x7 managed collocation environment for information services firm Experian in Asia Pacific.

While it would not disclose the exact location, Macquari said the Asia Pacific data center will allow Experian to grow its presence in Australia and surrounds.

According to Experian managing director for Australia and New Zealand Paul Vescovi, it will also allow Experian to continue with its data center consolidation efforts seen globally ÔÇô more recently in Europe and the US, where it has centralised 20 to 30 of its smaller collocation centers in key locations in the UK and California.

"Consolidating our data centers will reduce our operating costs and provide one secure location for our customer's business critical and confidential data," Vescovi said.

Macquarie Telecom will provide Experian with its Intellicentre hosted service for its Hong Kong data center back up and support for 300 servers in the region, with up to 100 terabytes of enterprise storage and network links to Experian's 12 regional offices for seamless integrating between each.

"The Intellicentre has dual electricity supplies, dual exchanges, fully redundant 24x7 access," Vescovi said.

Experian said that location is now important to its future plans for customer acquisition and management, credit risk management, fraud prevention and collections and marketing services.
