LSI Corp. and Vineyard Networks are collaborating on a joint product that combines Vineyard’s deep packet inspection software engine with LSI’s hardware to help operators of data center and mobile networks prioritize traffic.
The solution helps identify and applications on the fly and prioritize most important traffic to optimize the use of available bandwidth. It also offloads application-recognition and monitoring from the host processor.
Jason Richards, CEO of Vineyard, said the integration would provide one of the fastest and highest-performance methods of adding deep application recognition and metadata extraction to a networking solution.
“We'll continue to evolve the solution to keep current with the newest web trends for applications and networking protocols,” he said.
Vineyard’s software will run on LSI’s Axxia processor with Virtual Pipeline technology.
Prioritizing important traffic improves end-user experience for applications like video and collaboration platforms.
A key feature in a solution that does this is the ability to do its job unnoticed or, in other words, without impacting network performance. This is why LSI and Vineyard’s solution offloads this job from the host processor, identifying social networking, file sharing or Web 2.0 applications without the use of its resources.
