Space data center company Lonestar has signed agreements with NASA and Rooverse for space-based data storage.
With the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center, Lonestar has signed the Space Act Agreement for the establishment of a framework for collaboration focused on advancing technologies and operational concepts supporting lunar data storage, resilient off-world compute infrastructure, and next-generation space communications architectures.
Meanwhile, with Rooverse, the companies will work on securing and protecting human-generated social data in space.
Lonestar and NASA will first focus on technical collaboration and the evaluation of space-based data infrastructure concepts, which will support future space missions.

We are proud to collaborate with NASA Ames in support of technologies that can help enable the next era of lunar and cislunar operations.”
The Space Act Agreement is used by NASA to partner with private companies and academic institutions. It is authorized by the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 and bypasses traditional procurement agreements.
Lonestar aims to establish digital infrastructure in all Earth orbits and on the moon to provide sovereign, secure, and independently recoverable storage capabilities for governments, enterprises, and mission-critical applications.
In April 2026, Lonestar announced StarVault, a commercially operational space-based sovereign data storage platform. Sidus Space is currently building the first StarVault payload, which is scheduled to launch in October aboard LizzieSat-4. According to Lonestar, StarVault will deliver ultra-secure, off-planet data storage and enable governments to protect from critical cyber threats, natural disasters, and geopolitical risk.
In addition to the company's partnership with NASA, Lonestar has announced it is collaborating with Rooverse, a "human-only social media platform."
Rooverse's platform aims to block all AI-generated content and remove bots to improve human interaction via its platform.
Together, Lonestar and Rooverse will work to store and back up social data securely in space.

Lonestar raised $6.6m in January 2026 to further its efforts to deploy data centers in Space. At the same time, it announced that Stephen Eisele would take over as CEO from Chris Stott.
The company deployed the first data center on the Moon as part of the troubled IM-2 mission early last year. DCD profiled the journey in a feature that was itself taken to the lunar surface.
