London Stock Exchange, one of the largest stock exchanges in the world, has hired a new CIO, who will leave a similar position at a subsidiary of one of LSE's biggest rivals, NYSE Euronext. In 2008, NYSE acquired the American Stock Exchange, where Antoine Shagoury, LSE's new CIO, had served as CIO since 2004.
At LSE, Shagoury will oversee technology across all LSE markets, including an IT organization that serves the entire group.
Besides running electronic exchange infrastructure and providing services to its own departments, LSE is operating a fast growing colocation business for trading firms that aim to cut market-access latency by installing their servers next to the exchange's.
The company's Head of Business Development Technology Nigel Harold told DatacenterDynamics FOCUS in January that its colocation business was growing so fast, the company considered moving some of its own equipment out of its London data center to make room for customers.
Prior to joining AMEX, Shagoury held the position of CTO at Instinet, also a securities trading firm and operator of a large electronic communications network.
A NYSE Euronext spokesperson said on Tuesday that Shagoury's position had been filled, but could not disclose who filled it at the time of publication.
