A UK banking group is planning to build a £200m data center campus in the Scottish County of Dumfriesshire (south of the country). Lloyds TSB is expecting to submit a formal planning application for construction on farmland near Ecclefechan to the local government in March, BBC reports.

Meanwhile, the company has arranged two public hearings later this week to familiarize local residents with the proposals and to offer them an opportunity to comment.

The property has been represented by Internet Villages International. The data center-centric property company secured an “outline planning permission” for it last year.

The project is expected to create 600 jobs during construction and 50 once the data center is online. If the local council green-lights the project, it will result in one of the largest data centers in Europe.

Lloyds TSB was established in the mid-90s as a result of a merger between Lloyds Bank and TSB Group. The merger created what at the time was the largest retail bank in Britain, according to the New York Times.
