Data center service provider Latisys has hired a new manager to oversee its data center operations on Irvine, California. Robert Martin, who joins Latisys after a stint as an operations manager for a Savvis data center in the same city, will oversee both the existing Latisys data center Irvine, as well as the future 93,000 sq ft facility that is being constructed nearby. 

Corey Needles, VP of data center operations at Latisys, said Martin had a proven track record of managing mission-critical IT infrastructure operations for leading enterprises and government agencies. "Robert joins a strong, growing team of Latisys data center professionals in the Orange County market laser focused on providing customers with the highest level of service, support and uptime," he said in a statement. 

While at Savvis, Martin's responsibilities included management of large-scale mission-critical IT infrastructure for enterprises and service providers.

Latisys plans to bring the new Irvine data center online in the second quarter of 2011. The facility will offer power density of up to 250 watts per square foot, used to provide colocation, managed hosting and cloud-based services. The provider has been expanding aggressively this year, having added capacity in Ashburn, Virginia, and Chicago over the past six months.
