Data center service provider Latisys has expanded its data center in the Chicago, Ill., market, bringing online an additional 32,000 sq ft of raised floor and an additional 5MW of utility power.

The company said it had expanded its facility in Oak Brook, Ill., as it observed growing demand across the variety of its offerings, including colocation, managed hosting and disaster recovery services in the area. Oak Brook is about 20 miles west of Chicago.

"Facility expansion at our Chicago-area data center colocation facility isn’t just about supporting new customers, but ensuring that existing Latisys customers have the scalability, flexibility and agility they need to grow and thrive," Latysis-Chicago Regional Sales Director Kevin Knight said in a statement. "Throughout the Chicago area, power and space remain at a premium, which is why more companies are choosing to outsource their IT infrastructure to Latisys."

The new capacity is available immediately. While there is total of 5MW of additional utility power available right away, only 1.2MW of new generator power was added. Latisys plans to upgrade generator capacity in early 2011.

This is the second recent expansion of the Oak Brook data center. The company announced in August 2009 the addition of 9,000 sq ft of space there.

The expansion brings the company’s gross space in the Oak Brook facility to 136,000 sq ft. This is one of two Latisys data centers in the Chicago market. The company also has facilities in Ashburn, Va., and Denver and Irvine, Calif.
