Data center provider Latisys has acquired Pryme Technologies, a competitor whose data center in Ashburn, Va., gives the buyer access to a new geographic market. Besides taking control of the seller's existing data center, Latisys has leased additional data center space at the same technology campus.
 

\"We believe the addition of this campus in Ashburn provides an outstanding East Coast presence in a strategic market, while at the same time complimenting our other US markets, allows us broader reach into business and government customers, while positioning Latisys with an important gateway to Europe,\" Latisys CEO Pete Stevenson, said in a statement.
 

The existing Pryme data center is part of a 71,000 square foot facility at the Corporate Campus at Ashburn Center, which real estate investment firm First Potomac Realty Trust bought in Dec. 2009. Latisys has also leased out an additional 52,000 square feet in an adjacent building, also part of the campus.
 

According to Latisys, the data center will support power densities higher than 200 watts per square foot. The company provides colocation, managed hosting, managed services and disaster recovery.
 

The new facilities add Ashburn presence for the company that already operates data centers in Chicago, Denver, Colo., and Irvine, Calif. Leases on both buildings expire in May 2021, according to First Potomac.
 

First Potomac is currently negotiating a lease agreement with another customer that will make the property 100 percent full if the negotiations are successful, according to a First Potomac news release. When the trust acquired the property from MRP Realty for $14 million, it was 45 percent leased.
 

In its announcement of the acquisition, First Potomac said the sale price was heavily discounted and the seller would receive \"additional consideration if certain returns are achieved over the next five years.\"
 

Financial terms of the acquisition of Pryme by Latisys were not disclosed.
