Keppel Data Centers has completed external construction work on a new data center in Singapore.
The company this week announced it had topped out a new and fully-leased data center at its Genting Lane campus.
The six-story Keppel DC Singapore 8 has a net lettable area of approximately 100,882 sq ft (9,372 sqm) and is fully leased to clients from the cloud services, Internet, enterprise, and telecommunications sectors.
It is the second of three planned buildings on the Keppel Data Centre Campus at Genting Lane. The first phase of this facility is due to be ready for service in Q3 2024.
At full build-out, the three buildings will offer 659,612 sq ft (61,280 sqm) of leasable space.
Wong Wai Meng, CEO of Keppel’s data centers and networks division, said, “Together with our partner, Cuscaden Peak, we are pleased to mark the structural completion of our second data center in the Keppel data center campus, which stands for our shared commitment to support the long-term growth of Singapore’s digital economy.
The campus is being developed by Keppel and Cuscaden Peak Investments Private Limited. The companies’ respective subsidiaries respectively have a 60:40 stake in a joint venture, Memphis 1 Pte. Ltd., which holds the leasehold interest in the site where the campus is situated.
The development of the first two data centers on the campus is partially funded by capital from Keppel’s private fund Alpha Data Centre Fund.
Singapore has had a moratorium on new data center developments since 2019, although already authorized facilities were allowed to be built after this point. Singtel broke ground on a new data center in Singapore last year.
However, this ban was relaxed slightly in July 2022 when the Singapore Economic Development Board and the Infocomm Media Development Authority announced a pilot scheme allowing companies to bid for permission to develop new facilities.
Equinix, GDS, Microsoft, and a consortium of AirTrunk and TikTok-owner ByteDance have been granted permission for a combined 80MW of capacity.
