Kaspersky Lab, the Russian antivirus vendor, is set to launch a hosted edge security service in the UK.
A similar service was launched in Russia two years ago, and follows launches in France and Germany in 2007.
According to Guenter Fuhrmann, director of hosted security services for Europe, the model is to implement a local datacenter in each market into which the Hosted Security Services offering is launched. There is currently a datacenter in Russia, Germany (for both domestic services and for Austria and German-speaking Switzerland, one in France and one in the Netherlands which acts as backup.
Fuhrmann has confirmed that a datacenter is planned for the UK, however, if current talks with a major European ISP surrounding establishing a partnership prove fruitful, it may not be necessary to establish its own datacenter.
The hosted e-mail service is expected to be launched in the US in April, where the company has established a datacenter in Boston.
