The following content is from an older version of this website, and may not display correctly. US healthcare consortium Kaiser Permanente is undertaking a US$30m renovation and expansion of its data center in Napa Valley.
According to a report by the North Bay Business Journal, it plans to add 54,000 sq ft to the remote building.
The report said the 43,000 sq ft will be added to the southern side of the building and 11,600 sq ft to the northern face, creating about 213,600 sq ft of data center space.
Much of the cost will be taken up with new technology to be installed once the renovation is complete.
The company is still waiting to get planning permission, but said it could start construction in the next month.
Cooling towers, transformers and underground diesel tanks will be included in the projet.
Past owners of the Napa Valley site include Apple, Citibank, MCI Communications and Electronic Data Systems.
