JouleX, provider of data center energy management solutions, has entered into a deal with a PPC subsidiary that is focused on federal customers to integrate its energy-consumption tracking technology with a PPC data center energy management tool.

One of the first customers of the joint offering is the US Department of Energy. The two companies ÔÇô JouleX and Triton (PPC subsidiary) ÔÇô have started work with the department to measure, manage and analyze energy use of its data centers.

Energy data collected by JouleX's technology is fed into the Data Center Energy Profiler (DC Pro) ÔÇô a web-based solution developed jointly by PPC and the DoE ÔÇô which uses it to identify energy efficiency improvement opportunities.

Triton chief architect and innovation officer Neil Wright said JouleX's energy management system would add "tremendous value" to DC Pro customers.

"JouleX's agentless, network-based architecture provides a unique solution for monitoring, analyzing and controlling energy consumption in the data center," he said.

"JouleX automates the collection of energy information into DC Pro, streamlining the process of diagnosing energy use in the data center, saving time, increasing accuracy, and providing 'energy-aware'capacity planning and a baseline for measuring progress over time."

Triton implements JouleX at its customers'data centers for automatic monitoring and control of energy consumption of all devices across the enterprise. The purpose is to give customers information they can use to improve sustainable procurement practices by factoring energy efficiency into buying decisions.

The system provides individual users with customized reports, which include current energy use and cost per unit of production, annual available-energy graphs and tables, potential energy-savings graphs and tables, assessment of energy usage compared to other facilities on record and a list of next steps.
