According to Bexar County officials and local media reports, Microsoft Corporation is considering San Antonio for a possible data center with a price tag close to US$1 billion. Westover Hills has been mentioned as a potential location.
It is reported that the center will become a new hub for data services and computers. County officials believe the proposed center would bring in about 100 jobs to San Antonio and create spin-off businesses.
An announcement is expected sometime next year.
In another development, Microsoft has abandoned its lawsuit against the city of Quincy, Washington. At the end of November, the Corporation filed a suit seeking to prevent the disclosure of public records the company filed concerning its huge new data center project in the town. The city was complying with a public records request from an engineering firm seeking design and building plans Microsoft submitted for its data center. Microsoft subsequently dropped the lawsuit after the request was withdrawn.
