The company behind the upcoming IOEMA cable has announced a second landing partner in the Netherlands.

Greenhouse Datacenters this week announced it has been selected as an additional landing partner for the landing of the IOEMA subsea cable in Scheveningen (Rotterdam/The Hague area).

This will be the second landing location in the Netherlands for the IOEMA cable, with Eemshaven as the other, in partnership with QTS.

IOEMA Fibre announced plans for a new high-capacity cable between the UK and Norway via the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark last year.

At the time, the system was set to span 1,400km (869 miles) and feature 48 multi-core fiber pairs, for a total capacity of 1.3Pbps – though this was later reduced to 24 fiber pairs (not multicore), and aiming for a higher 37Tbps per pair, offering a total of around 1Pbps. Additional planned landings take the total cable length to 1,600km.

The firm is targeting a 2027 go-live date.

Landing in a cable landing station (CLS) previously hosting the VSNL/TGN Northern Europe cable, the new cable will terminate in QTS’s Eemshaven data center. Eurofiber had previously been named as the landing partner in the Hague/Rotterdam area.

Colt and Exa are the system’s other UK landing partners. The cable is set to land in Dumpton Gap in Southeast England, in a Colt CLS previously used for the Tangerine and Pan-European Crossing cables. The cable will land at Exa's CLS in Leiston, a town on the East Coast in Suffolk, previously used to house the Concerto 1 Cable.

In Denmark, the fiber company is partnering with Arelion and will host at a landing station in Blaabjerg that previously hosted the TAT-14 cable system. In Germany, IOEMA is partnering with utility EWE for a new CLS in Wilhelmshaven on the north coast. The cable will terminate in Norway at a new CLS at Bulk’s campus in Kristiansand.

Spun out of European cloud provider Worldstream, Greenhouse operates three data centers (DC1, 2, 3) located in Naaldwijk within the Rotterdam/The Hague metro area – the third of which opened this year. DC3 offers 2.4MW. The firm said it is planning a fourth facility.

UK investment firm Freshstream acquired a majority stake in Worldstream last year. Founded in 2006, Worldstream operates out of what are now Greenhouse facilities, as well as Maincubes’ FRA01 facility in Frankfurt, Germany.

“The landing station for the subsea cable at Greenhouse is much more than a technical facility. It is a strategic digital hub,” said Rick Pijpers, who is involved in the project as a strategic advisor via PWDR.AI. "A data center that functions as a landing station becomes a gateway to international data traffic, attracting ecosystems of carriers, cloud providers, and enterprises, thereby strengthening the digital economy.”
