Colocation services provider i/o has deployed a 3.6MVA modular data center at its new mega site in Edison, New Jersey, for what it says is one of the world's largest financial services companies. i/o did not disclose the tenant's name.

Called i/o Anywhere, the system was manufactured at the provider's factory in Phoenix and delivered to New Jersey for installation. By pre-manufacturing data center modules off-site, the provider cuts down substantially the time it takes to get new data center capacity up and running.

The 3.6MVA system in New Jersey was put in production in 90 days after the site was officially launched.

i/o CEO George Slessman said the company's modular approach was a reaction to many companies' need to find new data center strategies.

"Global 2000 companies are telling us they are moving away from the legacy real estate-based data center model to next generation, Data Center 2.0 strategies;just-in-time, productized, scalable and software-optimized data center solutions," he said in a statement.

The i/o Anywhere product includes data center floor and all necessary power and cooling infrastructure. In addition to deploying the modules at its own sites, i/o offers to deploy them at customers' locations.

Currently, i/o operates two US data centers ÔÇô in Edison and Phoenix ÔÇô but is actively pursuing expansion into Europe and Asia. The company has not specified where in Europe it plans to locate a data center, but Slessman told DatacenterDynamics in May that it will tackle the Asian market beginning with a site in Singapore.
