US data center operator Involta is expanding its Tucson facility in Arizona.
The company week said it is expanding capacity at the 38,000 sq ft (3,530 sqm) facility to 1MW.
“Our expansion in this key market provides colocation opportunities built to an enterprise’s specifications and Involta’s industry-leading standards to meet current and future demands,” said Ken Kremer, CTO of Involta. “Tucson is highly desirable due to several factors, including tax incentives, investments in innovation, and focus on increasing efficiencies to reduce power consumption.”
Located at 1215 East Pennsylvania Street, Involta broke ground on the $15 million facility in 2012 and launched it in January 2023. The data center offers capacity for 600 racks across 20,000 sq ft of technical space.
Tucson, located south of Arizona’s major data center of Phoenix, currently has a small data center market. Aside from Involta, companies including FirstTelecom/TW Telecom, Login Inc, and Simply Bits operate facilities in the city. Aphorio Carter acquired a data center in Tucson earlier this year that is leased to new company TECfusions.
Involta was launched in 2007 following the merger of Technology Resources Company and CoVault Technology. The company was acquired by the Carlyle Group from M/C Partners in late 2021. Today Involta operates 11 data centers across Minnesota, Ohio, Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, and Pennsylvania.
