Colocation provider Interxion has announced plans to build a fourth data center in Stockholm and also expand its VIE2 facility in Vienna.

The new Stockholm data center – STO4 – will include 1,100 sq m of equipped space with approximately 1.5MW of customer power.

STO4 is being built at its Interxion Stockholm campus at Kista and is expected to be operational in Q2 2015.

The campus hosts nearly 50 carriers and ISPs, which also has direct access to the Netnod Internet Exchange.

The CAPEX associated with the construction of the facility is €15m.

Interxion’s CEO David Ruberg said Stockholm is at the economic heart of the Nordic region.

“[It is] a strategic location for reaching northern Europe and the rapidly growing Internet economies of Russia and the Baltics,” Ruberg said.

“One of Interxion’s fastest-growing locations, it has strength in the digital media and cloud communities, and also in systems integrators.”

Interxion will expand its VIE2 in two phases – VIE2.3 and VIE2.4 – the CAPEX associated with the two phases is expected to be €17m.

The first phase – VIE2.3 – will add approximately 700 sq m of space and is due to open in Q2 2015.

VIE2.4 will add around 900 sq m of space and is expected to open in the second half of 2015.

Ruberg said the expansion of VIE2 is to meet Interxion’s customer demand.
