Interxion, one of the largest data center colocation service providers in Europe, has expanded the power capacity of its data center in Frankfurt, Germany. The company added medium-voltage switchgear to support an additional 14MW of power at the facility is has operated for more than 11 years.
"This development is consistent with our strategy of continued growth, primarily driven by the recent above-average demand in the financial services and carrier industries in Frankfurt," Interxion Group managing director Anthony Foy said in a statement.
In a news release, Interxion said a well-developed energy infrastructure was required to support the trends that are taking place in the IT market, including "minituarization," cloud computing and virtualization.
Interxion plans further capacity expansion in the Frankfurt market, having bought a greenfield site there for a 160,000 sq ft data center in March.
