Data storage company Ciphertex said it is releasing two new portable and rack mounted NAS storage systems aimed at verticals dealing with big data, in particular health care, oil and gas and the media and entertainment.

It is also targeting customers working in forensic science with its 10-bay portable CX-10K-NAS and 12-bay rack mounted CX-R12K-NAS 1GbE and 10GbE models.

The systems have been designed to be easily dropped into the data center and according to Ciphertex CEO Jerry Kaner, have been built with the specific vertical markets' needs in mind.

"The ever-increasing market adoption of our secure data storage technology is a testament of our ongoing commitment to providing the best-in-class portable and fixed storage solutions for business critical environments where security, portability, speed, reliability and I/O versatility are key requirements," Kaner said.

"Ciphertex secure data storage systems are engineered from the ground up to meet the exacting requirements for forensic law enforcement and investigative personnel; oil and gas exploration professionals; health care storage of electronic health records (EHRs), and media entertainment workflows where speed of ingest and secure access to the data are paramount."

The ruggedized CX-10K-NAS can deliver up to 40TB of storage and comes with AES 256-bit encryption to ensure the safety of data. It has transfer rates of up to 1,000MB per second and 100,000 IOPS.

Hyper-V compliant and Citrix XenServer ready, the portable solution is designed for extremely fast data transfer directly to a PC/Mac workstation through eSATA, USB-3 or the data center network through its network interface.

The CX-R12K-NAS has up to 48TB of storage and can be slotted into a portable rack solution or used as part of a LAN/WAN data reduction/analysis system. It has built-in RAID management and is hot swapable and simple to use, according to Ciphertex, which made its announcement at Interop in Las Vegas today.
