The new SSD910 series offers better performance, endurance and reliability than its predecessors, Intel said. Both versions – 400Gb and 800Gb – have PCI Express interfaces for easy upgrade of existing servers.

Roger Peene, director of data center SSD marketing at Intel, said the solution was ideal for replacing I/O-intensive hard-disk drives. “As a leader in SSD technology, data center IT professionals can have confidence in a tier-one, easy-to-install SSD solution backed by Intel quality, reliability and technical support.”

One of the companies using Intel’s new SSDs is Super Micro. The server maker’s general manager Tau Leng said SSD 910 enabled better CPU utilization rates.

The 400Gb version of SSD 910 is priced at about US$2,000, and the 800Gb one costs about $3,900, Intel said.

One such SSD can replace multiple 15,000 RPM hard-disk drives, according to Intel, which can save both space and power consumption. The solution is based on Intel’s optimized multi-level cell (MLC) 25-nanometer NAND flash memory.
