European provider of data center services Interxion has joined an Intel-lead US$11m round of funding for iStreamPlanet, a company that provides a technology platform for video content owners and distributors to stream and monetize their content.

Las Vegas-based iStreamPlanet is already a tenant at Intexion’s London data center, where the data center provider has helped it build out its European broadcast operations center over the past year.

The streaming company’s CEO Mio Babic said Interxion was not only an investor but also a strategic partner in solving the complexities of scaling the company’s media infrastructure, platform and services.

“Interxion's strategically located and interconnected data centers, combined with their media community, will play a key role as access points for our next generation of video workflow products and services,” Babic said.

Intel is contributing $7m in the Series A funding round for the company that has already provided services to companies distributing video content from high-profile European sporting events, including the French Open, Wimbledon, UEFA Under 21 and the French Open.

In the US, iStreamVideo provides services for such popular events like Bonnaroo, Coachella and South by Southwest (SXSW). Its client roster includes giants like Microsoft, AT&T, Caterpillar and American Express.

Interxion’s 28 data centers in 11 countries are used as access points for iStreamPlanet’s video workflow automation platform. The widespread footprint allows the company’s European customers to find the closest data center to ingest and digitize their content.

Customers benefit from both scale and proximity to the access points.
