CtrlS Datacenters has announced plans to develop a data center campus in Kolkata.
CtrlS will invest Rs 2,200 crore ($264m) to build the data center campus, implemented over four phases and offering more than 60MW of IT capacity.
The company already has plans for a 16MW facility in the city, set to go live in Q3 2024. The facility, which spans 90,000 sq ft (8400 sqm), will be part of the company’s proposed campus.
The campus will be built in the New Town area of Kolkata and will include ‘modern’ cooling technologies, high-density racks, and access to multiple ISPs and cloud service providers. Other specifications have not been disclosed.
Suresh Kumar Rathod, president of CtrlS’ colocation business, said: “Along with our core offerings, we will also launch our full suite of managed services and advanced interconnectivity solutions tailored for this market
“This metropolitan city ranks third in India by GDP after Mumbai and Delhi, and with West Bengal boasting the third-largest internet subscriber base after Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, the region is witnessing a rapid wave of digital transformation. These factors combined, are fuelling an immense demand for robust and reliable data center services.”
At the end of last year, the company announced plans to invest $2 billion over the next six years in expanding across Asia and the Middle East.
CtrlS Datacenters operates facilities in Mumbai, Bangalore, Noida, and Hyderabad, with Edge locations in Lucknow and Patna.
The company has more than 234MW of existing IT capacity and has planned developments in Uttarakhand and Gujarat, India. Earlier this year, CtrlS announced it had broken ground on its 72MW Chennai facility. The company is also working on a 150MW campus in Thailand.
STT and Tata Communications both have a presence in the Kolkata area.
