Government-owned Telkom South Africa has appointed a new CEO – Nombulelo Pinky Moholi – but is still looking for someone to fill positions for its leading operator role in the data center and CFO.
 
An engineer by trade, Moholi takes the place of Jeffrey Hedberg, who started in the role in July 2010. Hedberg will work as an advisor with Telkom until July this year. 
 
Altech starts new SA network
Altech Technology Concept said it is rolling out a new network for telecommunications in Cape Town, that will be launched alongside a Durban line in June as part of a R30m investment for broadband services.
 
The network will be housed in the Teraco data center in Isando, east of Johannewsburg. It has secured the use of subsea cables by Seacom and the Sat3 system of Telkom.
 
Bahrain and UAE businesses get new connection
Bahraini telecommunications firm Batelco and UAE-based du, a relatively new telecommunications company servicing the business and retail market, said they will work together to provide corporate virtual private network (VPN) inter-office connectivity between the UAE and Bahrain.
