Market analyst Broadgroup said it believes Malaysia and Singapore could become increasingly competitive when it comes to the data center industry, with both nations promoting themselves as critical locations.
Broadgroup Consulting managing director Steve Wallage said Malaysia is likely to see data center space double in the next four to five years.
Singapore has a reputation as a safe data center hub and a number of large global operators such as Equinix and Digital Realty Trust have committed to the country in recent years. DRT, for example, recently purchased a 370,500 square foot data center facility in Singapore's International Business Park in the Jurong East area.
Xinmao pulls out of Draka cable offer
Chinese company Xinmao Group has pulled back on its attempt to enter the fiber-optic cable market, dropping its bid for Dutch cable maker Draka.
The move leaves Italian company Prysmian open to seal the deal with its 830m euro offer. Xinmao said it no longer found its offer feasible and that it would not have time to launch its bid before Prysmian's offer closed.
Chinese power data centers go virtual
Beijing Power Unique Technology said it will install a new integrated virtualized solution at the data center of its Hai Nan Power Grid, Heyuan Power Supply Bureau, Chongqing Entry Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and Dagang Oilfield Company customers.
The turn-key solution is designed to help system integrators expand business and drive sales for Beijing Power Unique Technology and cement its owner, China Intelligence Information Systems Inc (CIISI, )as a player in the virtualization industry. CIISI said the key focus of its technology will be on the energy, electricity, government and healthcare industries.
