According to reports, Google has hired Acer e-Enabling Business Service Group CP Simon Chang to head its new Taiwan cloud computing project.

The rumoured appointment adds more conviction to reports that Google has purchased a large plot of land in Taiwan for a large cloud computing center to service Asia.

Chang left Acer in December 2010 but sources told Taiwan Economic News site CENS.com said Chang's data center experience made him a candidate for the Google position and that oversee the building of the site worth a suggested US$300m.

Reports suggest Google has purchase 15ha of land in Changhua County, and that the data center, when constructed, will be powered by solar energy and ready for use by 2018.

Verizon puts COO on the board
Verizon Communications said its COO Lowell McAdam has joined its board of directors.
Lowell was appointed President and COO in September last year. His appointment takes the number of board members for Verizon Communications to 14.

Lowell has been responsible for Verizon Communications network-based businesses and Verizon Services Operations as COO and is also responsible for its technology management and CIO functions.

John Lewis appoints first IT director
UK retail giant John Lewis has appointed its first IT director ÔÇô a former BA IT leader who oversaw new IT systems for Heathrow T5's new baggage handling system and self check in.

Corby will start his new position on March 21.
