Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) said it is setting up 200 base stations with Ericsson for its next generation mobile communications network which will be in operation by the end of the year.

It said the network will help it meet growing data requirements seen with Singapore customers from television on demand and gaming and applications, resulting from the rise in use of smartphones in the country.

Lightower extends New York and Connecticut networks 
Lightower Fiber Networks has expanded its network in New York and Connecticut, adding fiber between New Haven and Stamford in Connecticut and Westchester County and New York City.
The network also offers a route between Yonkers and the Bronx. 

The expansion adds to new routes offers throughout New England and New Jersey including in Greenwich and White Plains and its new route across the Hudson River added last year. All are designed for low-latency connections perfect for electronic trading.

Mission Critical looks after ViaSat 1 data landing base
Mission Critical Facilities has designed the ground-based facilities infrastructure for the ViaSat 1 broadband satellite scheduled to launch in coming months.

The satellite will host more than one million subscribers and will have 10 times the capacity of any other Ka-band satellite.

Mission Critical Facilities has also commissioned services on the primarily remote Teleport gateways for the project, which will be covered in more detail at the DatacenterDynamics' event in San Francisco on 10 June.

Sidera moves network into Dupont Fabros NJ
Sidera Networks has extended its fiber optic network to DuPont Fabros' Piscataway data center in New Jersey.
The announcement follows DuPont Fabros' announcement that it had also incorporated a new fiber network to NJ1 from Spread Networks, designed for low-latency connections for the regions financial exchanges.

Sidera Network's connection is also ultra low latency and connects to financial information and analytic applications for investment professionals, including FactSet Research Systems and other clients.

Comcast deploys Ciena's delivery platforms
Comcast is deplying Ciena Corporation's Carrier Ethernet Service Delivery platforms at its customer premise for business services and wireless backhaul.

Comcast has metro Metro Ethernet Services in more than 20 US markets and plans to enter more markets in coming months. Its IP network covers 147,000 miles of fiber optic cable. It said it is using Ciena's LE-311v service delivery and aggregation platforms to provision its network 60 times faster at are duced operational cost.
