South Carolina-based cloud and colocation specialist Immedion LLC has expanded its geographic reach with the acquisition of Appica, a data center operator from Cincinnati.

Appica will continue offering services under its own brand, but from today, it will do this as ‘an Immedion company’.

“Both companies share a complementary portfolio of IT services, proven track record of minimizing customer downtime and a focus on providing excellent customer service to our local markets. We are excited about the opportunity to expand Immedion’s presence into the Midwest,” said Frank Mobley, CEO of Immedion.

New horizons

Appica was founded in 2002 and operates two SSAE-16 audited data centers that serve more than 400 customers. Its first facility is located in Downtown Cincinnati, and the second in Union Township east of the city.

Meanwhile Immedion runs five data centers across South Carolina and North Carolina. The deal buys the company instant presence in Ohio, a state which was one of the first to offer generous tax breaks to data center builders. It also equips Immedion with valuable local expertise, and sets it up for future expansion.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our customers and Cincinnati team,” said Aaron Larkin, CEO of Appica.
