Data center operator Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) reported year-on-year revenue growth of 47.7% in the first quarter of 2011. 

 

Internet Initiative Japan CEO and President Koichi Suzuki said this growth largely came from expansions in the company’s international consulting subsidiary, IJJ-Global Solutions, and strong performance of the company’s cloud computing division.

 

"We recorded a strong and very encouraging first quarter growth in a volatile economic environment," Suzuki said. 

 

"In addition to the contributions for IJJ-Global, we have seen continuous growth in our overall business, including systems integration, despite the weakened Japanese economic momentum after the 11 March earthquake."

 

Company revenues reached JP¥23.362bn (US$290m) in the quarter ending 30 June. 

 

IIJ’s overall business was up -- its network service business saw a 66.8% increase in year-on-year revenues, largely on demand for cloud computing applications.

 

"We are servicing nearly 600 cloud computing projects and monthly revenue from our cloud computing services for June 2011 has reached over JP¥180m from JP¥120m for March 2011," Suzuki said. 

 

"Due to stronger demands, we will further invest in cloud computing-related facilities such as the Matsue Data Center and other service facilities to drive future growth and augment competitive advantage."

 

Suzuki also announced the opening of the company’s Kozu Data Center, a lease-based facility in Japan’s Kansai region, which serves primarily as a center for business continuity and disaster recovery needs.

 

"For the coming quarters, we expect our outsourcing services and cloud computing-related services to grow steadily," Suzuki said.
