Dr. Roger R. Schmidt, an internationally recognized expert in the field of electronic cooling received the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry at this year's Datacentre Leaders' Awards.
Roger is recognised throughout the industry for his exceptional technical accomplishments and leadership in areas such as cooling IBM supercomputers, high performance servers, mainframe and test equipment using cooling mediums such as air, water, and refrigerants.
In June 2009 Roger was named as an IBM fellow- IBM's prestigious technical honor. He has published more than 100 technical papers and holds more than 100 patents/patents pending in the area of electronic cooling and energy saving solutions for data centers.

Cofounder and previous chair of the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers) Technical Committee TC 9.9.
Member of the US National Academy of Engineering since 2005 Architect and inventor of the rear door heat exchanger deployed on all x series products and the high end p series products.
Architect and inventor of the side-car cooling unit which rejects the total heat load from the rack via air to chilled water.
Architect of the power and cooling design of the "world's most efficient data center" to be located in Poughkeepsie. It will deploy key new technologies that Dr. Schmidt is promoting - DC power distribution, liquid cooling and co-generation.
Formed and chaired industry-wide consortium of 17 IT OEM companies in 1999 to publicize power trends of IT equipment ASME Fellow since 2004, he has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Heat Transfer, Journal of Electronic Packaging, and ASHRAE HVAC &Research Journal.
Served on advisory committees at several Universities and two cooling technology companies. He was the recipient of the 2008 Itherm Achievement award.
Previous winners of the Outstanding Contribution Award are Founder of the Uptime Institute Ken Brill and Don Beaty, President of DLB Associates and former Chair of the Ashrae Technical Committee TC 9.9.
