Huawei is to showcase its new intelligent modular data center at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona. The Chinese comms vendor said the launch is part of a drive to get a product in place, as data centers shape the future of enterprise IT construction.
In November the comms giant outlined its global strategy for the data center market in an interview with DatacenterDynamics.
Speed is of the essence
Rapid deployment is increasingly important in a commoditizing data center market, according to Fang Liangzhou, VP of Huawei Network Energy’s product line.
The Intelligent Modular Data Center (IMDC) promises a low power usage effectives (PUE) ratio as a result of efficiencies in its built in uninterruptable power supply (UPS), direct current and frequency conversion, intelligent linkage and cooling.
No precise technical details have been made available as yet.
Huawei has 480 data centers around the world of which 160 are cloud data centers. The company recently disclosed that 2014’s revenue of $46bn represented a 15 percent increase that was driven by the cloud and – to a lesser extent - smart devices. It will be applying the lessons gleaned from these projects to make a cheap, plug and play, easy to manage commodity data center, according to Liangzhou.
“[Huawei is] a leading global ICT solutions provider with unique insights into industry trends,” said Liangzhou. At this stage, it is all about “helping customers achieve optimal operation efficiency and return on investment,” he added.
Huawei will showcase the modular system at Fira Gran Via Hall 1 and Hall 3, between 2 and 5 March.
