Huawei is joint first in shipments ofcontainerized data centers, according to research figures, sharing the honor with HP.

The two firms both have 11 percent of the world market for modular data centers, ahead of other vendors including Dell and IBM, according to recent research. Despite joining the market comparatively recently, Huawei says its containerized data centers are now a market leader in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and Asia.

To meet customers’demand for building data centers in complicated out-door environments, Huawei has rolled out a range of containerized solutions, such as the IDS1000 unit (shown here) which integrates all key components of a facility.

Not all containers are equal, says Huawei, claiming that sophisticated thermal management design has enabled it to rationalize the layout within its containers. The units have also been tested under various conditions, and the IDS1000 can run in temperatures as high as 55℃ and as low as -40℃.

Huawei has supplied container data centers to industries including telecoms, science, education, medical care, mineral energy, and government bodies. Wins include Telenor’s data center in Cambodia, Ghana’s e-government data center, and a Brazilian oil company’s data cente.

While Huawei’s containers have clearly made strides, market researcher IHS contacted Datacenter Dynamics  to clarify that the company is quoting figures from a report which actually includes both containers and other modular data center products.
