Croatian telco Hrvatski Telekom has signed a wind power purchase agreement with Liburana doo.
The telco this week announced a 10-year virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with Liburana doo, which is 100 percent owned by Professio Energia dd.
Liburana/Professio Energia dd will build the 'Mazin Gračac' wind farm, which will produce 50 GWh per year, and is planned to start operating in the last quarter of 2024.
The companies said this was the first corporate vPPA agreement of this type in Croatia.
"This agreement, the first corporate PPA in Croatia, represents a major structural energy transition for our company. It is an important step in meeting a significant part of our annual need for electricity from renewable sources, which will directly contribute to the achievement of our ambitious ESG goals,” said Kostas Nebis, President of the Management Board of Hrvatski Telekom. “For almost two years now, we have been using 100 percent of electricity from renewable sources and are systematically working to reduce energy consumption."
Mario Klaric, member of the Management Board and director of Professio Energia dd, added: "We are extremely proud of concluding this Agreement, which represents the basis for concluding the first such vPPA in Croatia. We are glad that Hrvatski Telekom chose Professio Energia dd as a partner for the purpose of implementing its energy transition.”

Hrvatski was founded on December 1998 after the separation of the Croatian Post and Telecommunications into two entities: Croatian Post and Hrvatski Telekom (aka Croatian Telecom). Deutsche Telekom acquired a majority stake in Hrvatski in 2001.
