Only two days following the announcement that it will get out of the PC business to focus more on the Cloud market, HP launched new storage products designed to enable cloud infrastructures.

The company announced two new 3PAR storage systems and a new storage federation software. The new P10000 3PAR storage systems are heavy on features favored by both public and private clouds, and the new Peer Motion software was designed to seamlessly move workloads between disk systems in virtualized and Cloud environments.

David Scott, senior VP and general manager for storage at HP, said legacy storage that was built two decades ago was never meant to support today's dynamics IT-as-a-Service situations. That has forced companies that use legacy storage to buy costly "bolt-on" virtualization solutions.

"The true peer-based storage federation in HP Converged Storage solutions can handle the inherent unpredictability of always-on, multitenant environments while reducing expense, management overhead and risk to service levels," he said.

Peer Motion is available for HP LeftHand and 3PAR storage systems. The solution ensures productivity and redistributes workloads without disruptions for workload balancing.

The software also administers federated thin provisioning, moving application data to systems with available capacity, which enables customers to defer buying more storage. Another feature is the ability to move application data from retiring arrays to new ones without disruptions.

The new storage array models are V400 and V800, both members of the 3PAR V-Class. V-Class storage systems are designed for mission-critical applications, supporting dynamic multitenant workloads on a single array.
