A hot air balloon struck a radio tower in Longview, Texas, over the weekend.

The balloon was tangled on the 105.7 KYKX tower at an estimated height of around 920 feet, according to a press release by the Longview Fire Department.

The tower is located at the intersection of State Highway 300 and FM 1844. The incident occurred on Saturday (28 February)

Units from the Longview Fire Department rescued two individuals stuck in the balloon’s basket. Neither the individuals nor the rescuers were injured.

Local services seem to have been unaffected, and there was no harm to broadcast antennas or transmission equipment, according to Longview Fire Department fire marshal Marcus Delaney.

Hot air balloons have collided with radio towers before.

During the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October 2024, a balloon struck and felled a radio tower, taking local station KKOB-AM off the air.

Longview is a city in and the county seat of Gregg County in East Texas. It is some 120 miles east of Dallas.
