Three standing offer agreements ( SOAs ) were awarded to Hewlett-Packard HK SAR, Jardine OneSolution ( HK ), and PCCW Solutions.
The seven year contracts include service level agreements on the reduction in the carbon emission and power consumption of government data centers by increasing the shared use of computing resources among systems which are now dispersed in different government departments.
Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Jeremy Godfrey, said, "As part of the Government's IT outsourcing strategy, the SOA-DCS will enable the Government to leverage market capabilities of advanced technology.
"This arrangement will also facilitate the Government to optimise investment in capital and labour in data center operations, enjoy procurement efficiency, and enhance cost-effectiveness in the management of data center services. "As user demand for data center service increases, we expect the contractors will create more job opportunities for computer operation and support personnel. This in turn will provide further impetus for the local information technology industry to grow".
