Announced in a LinkedIn post, the company said: “Our Alupang data center is a key hub for subsea fiber optic cables, offering seamless connectivity to major global networks.

“With access to 12 major cables (with more on the way) in the region, this partnership with Hexa solidifies Guam’s role as a gateway to the US and a vital part of the region’s digital future.”

Its Alupang data center in Tamuning began construction in October 2022 and will offer 4MW of capacity across 31,000 sq ft (2,875 sqm) when complete.

The MYUS cable is set to link the US and Malaysia and will be operational in mid-2028.

First announced at the end of last year, the cable will land in Oregon and Guam in the US, Jakarta, Batam, Balikpapan in Indonesia, and Davao City in the Philippines.

It is expected to feature 16 fiber pairs along its main branch. Other specifications, such as the cable’s capacity, have not been shared.

The cable is owned by telecom startup Hexa Capital Consultancy. The firm plans on selling the cable’s fiber pairs to long-term owners in the future.

“MYUS customers can be confident in the route design because it avoids the problems plagued by other existing undersea cables that transit contested waters in Southeast Asia. The MYUS Network provides efficient routing for lowest possible latency, and uses well-known, well-proven existing cable landing sites that have excellent up-time performance as well as widely-available backhaul options for Hexa’s fiber pair owners,” said Dr Azhari Abang Hadari, founder and CEO of Hexa.

GTA Teleguam recently received $200 million of investment from Stonepeak for the development of cable landing stations and data center capacity.

The telco was founded in 1950 and currently operates several landing stations on the island.

US territory Guam is currently the landing point for 11 subsea cables, and another four are due to reach the island in the coming years. As well as GTA, Tata operates one CLS on the island, and AT&T has two.
