The company is working on plans for colocation and disaster recovery data centers with an outside power point of 100 mega watts from nearby power stations. The company anticipates drawing 10-12 megawatts with 32 amps delivered to each high density rack.
David Massey, chief technology officer at Alchemy Plus told DatacenterDynamicsFocus: "With the site being on the sea front we'll get a good amount of free air cooling and we'll be looking to use that as much as possible. But in reality we won't be looking to cool that much because we're looking to use the hot air for retail, leisure and hospitality purposes elsewhere on the site." Massey said latency might be an issue for some people but that the site had good telecommunications which gave it access to carriers. "Many people will be just interested in power and that we have."
The project has an estimated value of £20 million and if approved is expected to be completed by 2010.
Peter Swanson, Chairman of Alchemy Plus, says: "This development could not be better timed. Demand for premium data centre space continues to far outstrip available supply and the current economic downturn is driving a rapid shift towards "Cloud" based services which offer greater economy and flexibility."
