Google has signed a series of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with Leeward Energy for energy from 724MW of solar projects under development in Oklahoma, US.
The solar portfolio comprises three large-scale installations strategically located adjacent to Google's data center in Pryor, Oklahoma.
Construction has commenced on the 372MW Mayes County solar portfolio, located within a mile of Google’s data center in Pryor, Oklahoma. The portfolio is expected to begin operations by the end of 2025.
The Mayes portfolio consists of three projects: the 145MW Salt Branch Solar, 125MW Huckleberry Solar, and 102MW Mayes Solar.
Energy from these projects will be delivered to Oklahoma's largest public power utility, Grand River Dam Authority, which will subsequently supply the energy to support the operations at Google’s Pryor data center.
Leeward Renewable Energy purchased the Mayes County Solar Portfolio earlier this year from Red River Renewable Energy.
The other two projects - 152.5MW Twelvemile Solar Project one & two and the 200MW Twelvemile Three Solar Project - are both located in southern Oklahoma and are under development. The projects have a commercial operation deadline of March 2026.
“By partnering with Grand River Dam Authority and Leeward Renewable Energy, Google is furthering its ambition to power our facilities, including those in Oklahoma, with carbon-free energy around the clock by 2030,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, global head of data center energy at Google.
The power purchase agreements were facilitated through LEAP, a joint framework developed by Google and LevelTen to reduce the timeline of traditional PPA negotiations.
Further details on the length and capacity of the PPA were not disclosed.
The PPA is the latest of several that Google has signed to power the Pryor data center, which has been operational since 2011.
In 2011, the company signed a 100MW power agreement with a local wind farm, a deal which it extended to 240MW – the entirety of the power generated at Mico II - in 2013.
Then, in 2015, the company signed another two 200MW wind power contracts for the Renewable Energy Systems Americas Bluestem project in Oklahoma.
The PPA with Leeward is the second signed by Google in 2025. Last week, it inked an agreement with Apex Clean Energy to offtake the entire capacity of the latter's 79.3MW Rocky Forge Wind project in Botetourt County, Virginia.
