The following content is from an older version of this website, and may not display correctly. Google is serious about investing in Indonesia and is currently investigating data center security and online advertising regulations in the country, according to reports.
Google said it plans to open an office in Indonesia ÔÇô where 18% of the population (40m people) currently use the Internet ÔÇô and plans to invest a minimum of US$100m in the country, according to the office of Indonesia's Vice President.
Both the Jakarta Post and e27, a website dedicated to news about web innovation in Asia, said talks had been held between Google Chairman Eric Schmidt and Indonesia's Vice President Beodiono on 22 July.
According to the Jakarta Post, Schmidt told the government it was hoping to begin its expansion before the end of this year.
Indonesia's Minister of Communications and Information later told journalists that most of Indonesia's internet users already use Google, referring to them as "Google addicts".
