Google is considering a new data center development in New Mexico.

The company this week announced it was “exploring a new data center project” in Lea County.

Further details, including location and facility specifications, were not shared.

“Though many details remain outstanding, we’re excited about the possibilities that exist in Lea County, and look forward to sharing more as the project progresses,” Google said.

Lea County is located in the southeast corner of New Mexico, on the border with Texas. Its county seat is Lovington.

It would be Google’s first self-built development in New Mexico. The company has projects in neighboring Arizona and Texas.

New Mexico has a relatively small data center market compared to the likes of Arizona and Texas, largely centered around Albuquerque. Stack and Meta are present in the state, as well as Csquare and H5.
