Gomi replaces former CEO Tetsuro Yamaguchi, who occupied the role since 2006 ÔÇô a tenure during which the company's revenue nearly doubled, according to a company news release.
Gomi will oversee all functional areas of the organization, including Enterprise Solutions and Global IP Network business units. ESBU provides networking, Ethernet and a variety of data center services, including colocation, managed hosting and cloud computing. The Global IP Network unit operates the company's global Internet backbones and sells direct IP transit connections to telecoms, ISP's, content providers, CDN's, enterprises and Web hosting firms.
Gomi has been with NTT for more than 20 years. Before becoming COO in 2009, he held the position of CTO of NTT America and VP of the Global IP Network business unit.
In September 2009, Gomi was named one of that year's Global Telecoms Business Power 100. The list, compiled annually, includes 100 of the most powerful and influential people in the telecom industry.
